Microblading is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin using a blade consisting of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes, makeup, or to enhance the natural features of the face. Microblading is meant to be a natural enhancement, and to create the appearance of full, beautiful brows. It looks most natural on clients who have full brow hair, and are wanting to perfect their shape and add natural fullness. The more fine hair you have, the more natural it will appear. This is not an ideal service for those with little natural hair, hair that is patchy, or coarse hair. Microblading heals best on young, normal/dry skin. Those with combination/oily or aging skin are not candidates for microblading, and are better suited for a combination or powder brows. Many clients think that microblading is the only way to achieve “natural” results. However, unless a client is an ideal candidate, microblading can look more unnatural that something like a combo or powder brow. If you do not fit the above description of an ideal microblading candidate, book a combo or powder brow! It is also important to note that microblading, over time, is very likely to blur together. While initially the strokes may look crisp and thin, if you have oily skin, aging skin, are in the sun frequently, or other reasons, the strokes will blur together. Microblading can typically be done by itself 4-5 times before a client switched to a powder brow to avoid scar tissue build up.
Nano brows is a type of permanent makeup that uses a digital machine to implant pigment into the upper dermis layer of your skin. This creates a very fine, natural-looking eyebrow shape that resembles real eyebrow hairs and won't smudge or fade over time. Nano brows can help to create fuller, thicker brows that look completely natural. This approach ensures that each client's brows are tailored to their unique features, resulting in stunning, natural-looking results that can last for years. This is a beautiful look for all skin types (including oily/aging skin), and heals very soft and beautiful. The results can last several years depending on skin type, lifestyle, age, and how often you get touch-ups.
Combination brows are a blend of microblading and powder shading. Hair-strokes are created at the front of the brows manually and shading is done using a machine. ESB Combo Brows are custom to each client. Some may need spot shading while others require more density through the body of the brow. If you have naturally sparse brow hair or uneven brow growth, a combination brow is perfect for you! Soft shading blends out any unevenness in the growth and can give a more 3D result. It is also idea for those looking for a more defined or filled in brow. We can add as much or as little shading to give a variety of different looks. This is a beautiful look for all skin types (including oily/aging skin), and heals very soft and beautiful. The results can last several years depending on skin type, lifestyle, age, and how often you get touch-ups. If you are unsure of what service to book, a combination brow is the safest choice!
Permanent makeup/cosmetic tattoo is not permitted for anyone under the age of 18. If you are pregnant/breastfeeding, as a precaution we will not perform the service as there is a risk of infection. If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure. If you have extremely oily skin, the hair stroke eyebrow technique may not work very well for you. The constant production of oil will cause the hair strokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result will look more powdered than you would expect. We recommend ESB Powder/Ombre or Combo Brows for extremely oily skin. If you have little to no existing hair or coarse hair, your tattoo will appear more 2-dimensional than those clients who have more hair, or naturally finer hair. We recommend ESB Powder/Ombre or Combo Brows. If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment may fade sooner. If you are iron deficient or anemic, your pigment may fade sooner and bleeding/bruising may occur during and after the procedure. If you are currently going through chemotherapy, please wait at least 4 months post chemo/radiation because like with any tattoo, there is a risk of infection. If you have rosacea we do not recommend microblading. Powder brows can be considered. If you are over the age of 60 a skin evaluation is recommended to determine which brow treatment will be right for you. If you have received covid-19 vaccine you will need to wait 2 weeks before/after vaccine. If you have uncontrollable diabetes, we do not recommend this procedure. Any of the following skin diseases/condition will need to be evaluated first if they are near the brow area - Keratosis, Eczema, Psoriasis, Alopecia, Keloid Scars, Seborrhea Dermatitis Scar(s) on the brow (will need to be evaluated first) If you have a pacemaker, any machine use will not be allowed. allergy to latex/metals PLEASE NOTE: If you have had your eyebrows previously tattooed, we will need to do a consultation before booking. We cannot guarantee results for cases such as these. In some instances where the previous work is too dark, dense, discolored, or large, tattoo removal will be highly recommended before our services will be considered. Previously tattooed areas will almost always require additional sessions and will be charged accordingly. Some special cases may be considered. Please contact us with any further questions.
Preparing for your appointment is just as important for good healed results as post care. Failure to follow pre-care may result in you being sent home the day of your appointment, so please read the following carefully! You coming prepared to you appointment means better healed results and a better overall experience. PRE-CARE INSTRUCTIONS Pre-care instructions are designed to limit bleeding and skin sensitivities during the service. Excessive bleeding during the procedure will dilute the pigment color, leading to poor healed results that may appear more ashy/cool/purple. HOW TO INSURE MINIMAL BLEEDING: Day of appointment No caffeine (coffee, soda, energy drinks, tea, etc) - It may make you jittery. Although caffeine is not a blood thinner, it will increase blood pressure which can cause more bleeding. Wash your hair before your appointment. You won't be able to get your brows wet for the next 10 days, so wash your hair beforehand to give yourself a few extra days before your next wash. We will explain how to shower/avoid the brow area at your appointment. Makeup: You are welcome to come to your appointment with or without makeup on. We will be taking photos, so come however you are most comfortable. If you regularly fill in your brows, coming with at least your brows filled in helps to see your regular shape. Bring your brow makeup if you have a specific product you love. RELAX! Feeling nervous is normal. We are going to work together to create your dream brows! Take a deep breath and get excited! 24 hours before appointment No work outs - the body can burn up to 36 hours after a work-out and body heat expands the pores making it harder to retain the pigment. 48 hours before appointment No alcohol, aspirin, niacin, ibuprofen, krill/fish oil, Vitamin E, naproxen, or Pepto-Bismol - they may cause thinning of blood. Excessive bleeding will make it hard to work which will result to rescheduling your appointment. 1 week before appointment No waxing or threading - the more natural hair you have the better. Waxing may also cause a breakout. 2 weeks before appointment It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 2 weeks before your procedure. After your procedure, tanning beds must be avoided completely or they will permanently damage and discolor your brows. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn on your face, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it. Must be free from antibiotics 2 weeks before procedure. DO NOT discontinue any medication without consulting your doctor first. If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure in case of an infection. No exfoliating acids close to the brow area (see below * for more) 3-4 weeks before appointment No blood thinning medication/supplements (warfarin, xarelto, etc). No brow tinting or lamination for at least 3 weeks prior to appointment. No chemical peels, microdermabrasion, microneedling, or any other intense treatment. This will cause skin cells to rejuvenate faster and will affect the healing of your brows. Botox and filler on the forehead, temple, and eye area should be done 3 weeks prior or 2 months after the appointment. Symmetry can be hard to balance with too much botox. It is recommended not to remove any brow hairs 4 weeks prior to your appointment. The more the hair, the better. If there are any stray hairs that fall outside of our final shape, we can remove them. *Discontinue Retin-A, Renova, Retinol, Tretinoin, Vitamin A, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (ADA), Glycolic Acid, oils, and any chemical exfoliants or "brightening" skincare at least 4-6 weeks prior to procedure. Once brows are healed, avoid use of these products near eyebrows/forehead completely as they can alter the color and cause premature fading of the pigment. PLEASE NOTE: You may be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle. If you notice a pimple on your brow area, PLEASE let your artist know as soon as possible that way we can reschedule you to another date. Clients who smoke cigarettes have delayed wound healing and accelerated skin aging. Cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide which displaces the oxygen in your skin, and nicotine, which reduces blood flow, leaving skin dry and discolored. PRO-TIP: Our services are intended to relax! Some of our clients like to bring earbuds/ear muffs if they are especially sensitive to the blade (scratching) sound.
Immediately after getting your brows done, you may experience minor redness or swelling around the treated area, which typically goes away within 24 hours. Over the next few hours, the pigment in the skin will oxidize, making the brows look darker and warmer (red) than they were initially. This is normal and expected. Pigment typically fades anywhere from 20-40% once fully healed. Around day 3-4, you may notice light scabbing and flaking on the treated area. This is normal! Please refrain from picking at the brows. Doing so will result in loss of pigment in those areas and can cause scarring. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished healing. Once all the flaking is complete (usually around day 10), the brows will appear much lighter. The pigment will darken over the next 4-6 weeks and the pigment will return to the skin in its healed color. At 4-6 weeks, your brows will be fully healed. Whatever pigment that does not return will be addressed at your touch up appointment. At this appointment, we will asses your retention, touch up the spots that didn’t stick, and can adjust the pigment color to give you perfect brows! Once the brows have healed from your touch up appointment, you will have beautiful, full brows for 12-36 months!
Your initial session can take up to 1.5 to 3 hours depending on how much work needs to be done. The duration consists of consultation, numbing, mapping/pre-drawing, color selection, and microblading/microshading procedure.
A highly-effective, topical anesthetic cream is used for numbing before your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable during the procedure. on average, clients claim it is a 2-4 on the pain scale out of 10. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used during the procedure will not last as long. If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure.
Anyone who has had their brows done previously by another artist MUST be approved before booking an appointment. Please email current photos of your brows, along with your goal photo to before booking to make sure I am comfortable working over the existing work. I typically only go over other artists work if it’s at least 85-90% faded, and all new clients to me are considered an initial session. I want to give my clients the very best, and help create their dream brows. If I don’t think we can achieve what you’re wanting with your existing work, I will give recommendations on how to help the ink fade more quickly or recommend a removal artist.
Oily Skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and fade very quickly, or not stick at all. If you have combination or oily skin, you are a candidate for a combination or powder brows, but not for microblading. Sun Exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading. I recommend all my clients purchase Cannasmack Ink Guard on Amazon to protect their healed brows from the sun. Excessive Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. Pinpoint bleeding throughout the procedure is normal, but excessive bleeding causes pigment to fade very quickly and heal ashy. While bleeding is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow pre-care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications and alcohol 48 hours before your procedure. Improper Pre and Post Care: Not following the given pre and post care instructions will greatly diminish your healed results. Follow all instructions exactly for the best results! I can only control what happens inside my studio, so please come prepared beforehand and follow all instructions exactly afterwards for the best results.
Yes! The initial session is always applied conservatively because everyone's skin is different, and the final color can only be precisely determined and adjusted during a touch-up appointment after the initial procedure is fully healed. Because of this, the process is not complete after the initial procedure. For best results, all permanent cosmetic procedures require two sessions. This is a very important part to help keep your pigment retention and increase the longevity of your brows. During your 6-8 weeks perfecting session we will assess your pigment retention and make any adjustments needed. After this we will see you on a yearly touch-up basis.
Cosmetic tattoo treatments are considered permanent and will not wash off, however, they are designed to fade over time and may need to be refreshed. Most clients are able to go 1-2 years between annual touch-ups. The longevity of your brows will depend on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you take care of them. Frequency of sessions depends on a number of factors including: the pigment used (lighter colors fade faster), lifestyle (sweat, sun exposure, tanning beds can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down), age, metabolism, medications, and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas. Picking the proper service for your skin type and following the given aftercare instructions will lead to beautiful results for years to come! Multiple sessions are normal and expected for permanent cosmetics, with each new procedure requiring a minimum of 2 visits. Your second session can be booked no sooner than 2 months after the initial appointment. Additional sessions will be charged according to our current pricing. Please note that final results CANNOT be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. We will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment at your second session and perfect your permanent makeup!
While permanent makeup is amazing for defining the brow and enhancing a client’s features, it’s important to have realistic expectations about what it can and cannot do. Permanent makeup is a cosmetic tattoo, meaning it is going in your skin. Makeup sits on top of your skin. Therefore, some of things you can achieve with makeup will not look the same or give the same effect as a PMU tattoo. Because the tattoo we are creating is relatively permanent and is going in your skin, it’s very important where we place and shape the brow! Going too far away from where the hair naturally grows will look unnatural and won’t blend with the natural hair that you have. Because the ink is being implanted under the skin, it’s also important to note that the healed results will always differ from fresh ones as the skin heals over it. Permanent makeup is not magic, and it’s important that we stay close to what your brows are naturally doing to maintain beautiful results. We strive for natural results that will look amazing for years to come!
Before booking an annual refresher, it’s important to let your brows fade at least 40-50%. Letting the previous ink fade allows us to keep that ink fresh in the skin! If the ink in your skin from previous appointments isn’t faded enough, adding more ink can cause the entire brow to look blotchy and uneven. Let them fade! If you’re ever unsure if you are ready for an annual refresher or not, email us photos and we will let you know!
